Moises Caicedo names two Chelsea idols after receiving Blues-inspired birthday present

Moises Caicedo – who broke through with junior club Independiente del Valle in Ecuador – only joined Brighton for £4m two years ago but has now sealed a £115m move to Chelsea

Moises Caicedo has revealed he was only ever going to sign for Chelsea after growing up idolising N’Golo Kante and Claude Makelele.

Ecuador midfielder Caicedo became the Premier League ‘s most wanted man ahead of his £115million record breaking move to Stamford Bridge. Arsenal tried to sign him in January, Liverpool had a fee agreed with Brighton but the 21-year-old insisted that he was determined to join Chelsea.

It started with him following Chelsea as a kid, watching their famous holding midfielders master his own position as he was growing up in South America. A friend even asked him what he would like for his 18th birthday, he asked for a Chelsea shirt with Kante on the back – and it duly arrived.

He has been pictured in a “then and now” photo shoot with his mum Carmen with an up-to-date photo session at Monday’s unveiling at the club’s training ground. Incredibly, Caicedo – who broke through with junior club Independiente del Valle in Ecuador – only joined Brighton for £4m two years ago.
