Jamie Carragher outlines who is to blame for Liverpool transfer failures

Liverpool have endured a poor transfer window and look set to miss out on several key targets with Moises Caicedo joining Chelsea and Romeo Lavia set to follow

Jamie Carragher has claimed the lack of stability in Liverpool’s recruitment team is a major reason for their failures in the transfer market.

The Reds were often hailed for their recruitment as they won honours without breaking the bank in the transfer market. They negotiated new arrivals with minimal fuss, often getting deals done quickly, but this summer they’ve endured a tricky window.

Michael Edwards was the man behind the scenes during their Premier League and Champions League successes, but since his departure several men have held the role, including current sporting director Jorge Schmadtke.

Moises Caicedo was the subject of a £110m bid, but has since rejected a move to the Reds in favour of a switch to Chelsea. The Blues could also beat Liverpool to Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, who the Anfield outfit refused to pay £50m for before returning with a £60m bid, when it emerged they would miss out on Caicedo.
