Man Utd snub Harry Maguire against Wolves as Neville left ‘100 per cent’ certain

Gary Neville believes that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag made it clear that Harry Maguire is at the bottom of the pecking order against Wolves on Monday night. Victor Lindelof was selected over the England international to come off of the bench at half-time to replace Lisandro Martinez. Maguire was stripped of club captaincy prior to the 2023/24 Premier League campaign getting underway, with the armband being given to Bruno Fernandes. The decision was seen as a key indicator that the ex-Leicester City star no longer had a future at the club, despite his desire to stay. The Red Devils have recently accepted a £30million bid from West Ham for Maguire, though a deal is yet to be finalised as the defender is yet to agree on personal terms. Fears are therefore growing that the transfer may not take place, with the Hammers already starting to sound out alternatives. However, Neville feels that Ten Hag attempted to reinstate his previous point against Wolves during United’s opening game of the season. Martinez was withdrawn at half-time, having been booked for a rash tackle on Pedro Neto, and replaced by Lindelof – despite Maguire being the more natural replacement given that he plays as a left-sided centre back. Harry Maguire remained an unused substitute (Image: Sky Sport) Speaking about the substitution to Sky Sports, Neville said: ‘Manchester United are trying to manage Harry Maguire out of the club and get the money for him, 100 per cent, there’s no doubt.” United are already eyeing up replacements for Maguire and would like to push him out of the exit, with Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo and versatile Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard both linked with a move to the club.
