Tiger waits 12 hours outside man’s hut

A vengeful Siberian tiger went on a killing spree in a remote area of Russia, targeting humans who had provoked it by stealing its kill, Canadian author John Vaillant has recounted in his book

A series of horrifying killings gripped a remote snow-covered wilderness in the far east of Russia. The perpetrator? A vengeful Siberian tiger that got a taste for humans as a snack.

The slayings took hold of a town in East Russia back in December 1997. The first victim, Vladimir Markov, a 47-year-old poacher, met a gruesome end when his headless and disemboweled body was discovered near his isolated cabin.

Days later, a young former soldier ventured into the forest for a hunting trip, only to meet a fate equally as gruesome. All that remained of him were blood-soaked shreds of clothing, his watch, crucifix, and a pair of abandoned boots, the book The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival details.

Both victims had been patiently stalked and marked as premeditated, first-degree murders. Both victims had been devoured by their assailant, Canadian author John Vaillant has recounted the tale in his book: The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival.
