The new Chelsea boss looked at home in his first Premier League game in charge of his new club as the Blues battled back to pick up a point in an entertaining draw with Liverpool
As he surveyed the scene when walking towards the tunnel at full-time and glancing up towards the Chelsea supporters, Mauricio Pochettino looked at home.
Not so much at home at Stamford Bridge just yet, that might take a while to get used to, but more at home back in the Premier League, especially after a game where both sides relentlessly – you might say recklessly at times – committed to attack and emptied midfield in a way which showcased just why they are such unpredictable forces this season.
Without getting all ‘best league in the world’ about it, Pochettino clearly enjoyed the to and fro nature of his first league game as Chelsea’s manager, largely because it was played between two sides who were more than happy to go for it.
Liverpool’s starting XI wasn’t so much a teamsheet as a statement of intent, and that meant that this game was destined to become the type of fixture that the former Tottenham boss used to relish when he last worked in London, with high intensity, high energy football winning the day, no matter what the score ended up being.
