I bought a PS5 and it’s great… so why all the negativity? – Reader’s Feature

A reader reveals how he’s just bought a PS5 and four of its exclusives and finds himself unashamedly pleased with his purchase.

If anything, the games industry has got even stranger since the end of the pandemic. I don’t know if that’s because the true effects of it are only being felt now or if the Activision Blizzard business has thrown everything for a loop. Nintendo does seem to be back largely to normal and are the only ones releasing any volume of first party games at the moment, which is a good sign of how everything’s been turned upside down.

Even so, I’ve been saving up for a PlayStation 5 for a while and finally got one for my birthday at the beginning of the month. I’ve noticed a lot of negativity about Sony and Microsoft lately, a lot of console war stuff amplified by the Activision Blizzard situation but also a lot because of Sony’s weird silent treatment at the moment – especially that awful PlayStation Showcase the other month.

I’ll admit, that did give me pause as to whether I was doing the right thing here, but only briefly. I need to get into the next gen and I’ve never really vibed with the Xbox and none of its current games really appeal to me, even if they are definitely looking better than a couple of years ago. So, I dove in and picked up the games Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Demon’s Souls, and God Of War Ragnarök. And I love them.

Obviously, I haven’t played any of them for a substantial period of time yet, but I’ve dipped in and out and I’ve got to say the quality across the board is fantastic. It starts with Astro’s Playroom, which is a free game but a really good introduction to the PlayStation 5 in terms of what it can do (especially the controller) and a sort of celebration of PlayStation in general.
