Alan Shearer explains how he’d have dealt with Pep Guardiola half-time rant

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was seen ranting at Erling Haaland during Friday’s win at Burnley, and Alan Shearer claims he would have reacted differently to the striker

Alan Shearer has made it clear he wouldn’t have taken kindly to a manager behaving like Pep Guardiola did on Friday if he was on the pitch.

Guardiola’s City team won 3-0 at Burnley on Friday, having led 2-0 at the break through an Erling Haaland brace. The manager clearly wasn’t happy with his goalscorer, though, as evidenced by an angry half-time clash with the Norway international.

Former England striker Shearer was on punditry duty on Match of the Day when the confrontation was shown. The 53-year-old didn’t have a problem with Guardiola criticising his player, but took issue with the public nature of it all.

“I’m old school, I do love how he is so driven and wants perfection,” Shearer said. “If he (Guardiola) doesn’t want the cameras to see him then wait until you’re in the dressing room.
