Woman sues bakery after it put up posters branding her a ‘cake thief’ in window

A Florida woman is suing a bakery after posters labeling her a “cake thief” were displayed over a dispute over a Mocha cake purchase

A dispute over a Mocha cake purchase has escalated into a legal battle as a Florida mum claims her local bakery plastered posters calling hera ‘cake thief’ in the shop window.

Margarita Sciapin, files a lawsuit against the Paris Morning Bakery in Boca Raton. Sciapin claims that the bakery’s actions left her distressed and hospitalised.. She is seeking damages totaling more than $50,000.

“The defendant, through its employees, allowed the publication of false and defamatory written statements about the plaintiff, framing her as a thief to be knowingly and purposely published by the defendant’s employee in its shop window,” the lawsuit states. The conflict traces back to January of this year when Margarita, a self-described “plant-based, vegetarian on a path of balanced eating,” purchased a $29 Mocha cake from Paris Morning Bakery.
