Man Utd’s reasons for snubbing Harry Kane emerge after transfer to Bayern Munich

Manchester United were in the early running for Harry Kane, but the England captain has instead completed a record-breaking move from Tottenham to Bayern Munich

Harry Kane was Erik ten Hag’s first choice for Manchester United this summer, it has been claimed, but the club rowed back on a deal for fear of repeating their woes with Frenkie de Jong last summer.

United spent an entire window pushing to sign De Jong, even appearing to reach an agreement to sign the Dutch international. However, when the summer window shut, he was still a Barcelona player.

The Red Devils looked into signing Kane this summer, with the England captain entering the final year of his deal. It quickly emerged that Spurs didn’t want to sell to another Premier League club, though, freeing the 30-year-old to join Bayern Munich.

According to The Athletic, United learned relatively early on that a deal for Kane would be difficult, despite Ten Hag’s preference emerging back in April. There was reportedly a fear that any delays on Kane might distract from other transfer business.
