Former Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? presenter’s protests over London mews house expansion sparks debate over privacy and disruption
Chris Tarrant has lashed out at his local council after his desire to sunbathe in peace was “ignored” in a planning row.
Tarrant, the former Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? presenter, led objections to the expansion of mews houses in the central London district of Marylebone.
The 76-year-old had argued the proposals – including a mansard roof-level extension and a new basement floor – were not only out of character with the area but would also prove invasive.
In a public statement submitted to Westminster Council, he said: “The courtyard is the only access to open space we have nearby and my wife and I do take to enjoying the sunshine that we get there and want to enjoy a degree of privacy i.e. wear [a] bathing suit etc.”
