ENGLAND 2-1 COLOMBIA: The Lionesses came from behind for the first time at the World Cup as forwards Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo got the crucial goals to take England into the last four
England are into a third straight World Cup semi-final after coming from behind to beat Colombia 2-1.
The Lionesses set-up a Sydney showdown with co-hosts Australia after Alessia Russo’s excellent finish decided a hard fought contest with the South Americans. Sarina Wiegman’s team had trailed for the first time in their campaign, but Lauren Hemp levelled before Russo’s superb finish just after the hour completed the turnaround.
Disaster struck for the European Champions when Leicy Santos produced a moment of magic just before half-time. Santos tormented Alex Greenwood before lifting the ball over a stranded Mary Earps. And Earps, who has saved England so many times already during the tournament couldn’t get to this one, the goal sending the Colombian bench into raptures while the majority of Stadium Australia erupted.
But England were level before the break after a goalkeeping howler at the other end. Catalina Perez somehow losing the ball from her grip on the ground and Lauren Hemp bundling in from close range for her second of the tournament.
