Chick-fil-A worker sent home over ‘unnatural’ hair colour as mum pursues legal action

Autumn Williams was working at a Chick-fil-A when she was pulled aside by a manager and told she was to go home and not come back until she had removed the “unnatural” colour from her hair

The mum of a teenager who was sent home from a popular fast food chain for her “unnatural” hair colour has said she has considered pursuing legal action over the incident.

16-year-old Autumn Williams, of Concord, North Carolina, was sent home from her job at Chick-fil-A after being pulled aside by a manager over her “unnatural” colour. While many would assume her hair was neon pink, or hot blue, it was in fact blonde.

Now, her mum Nina Burch says they’ve filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) “to see if there’s a route we should pursue legally.”

“I was very embarrassed,” recalled Autumn. She and mum Nina said the teen usually wears her “brownish-blonde” or “dark blonde” hair in box braids.
