Food giant responds to demands to ‘end ongoing complicity’ in war in Ukraine
Unilever’s new chief executive has promised Ukrainian war veterans that he will look with “fresh eyes” at a decision to maintain its Russian business, as the Marmite maker comes under sustained fire.
In a letter seen by The Telegraph, Hein Schumacher pledged to reassess the food giant’s position on Russia in his new position as chief executive, after receiving a personal plea from a Ukrainian soldier.
He said he was “only a few weeks into this role” and was looking at everything anew.
Mr Schumacher was writing in direct response to demands from Ukrainian veteran Oleh Symoroz for Unilever to “end its ongoing complicity” in the war in Ukraine.
