Journey Richardson from Anchorage, Alaska , was just 17 years old when she was dog-sitting alone. Suddenly, she suddenly began experiencing painful cramps, and went to get into a bath to sooth her pains. However, the bath did not ease her pain, and she was shocked to find she was actually in the process of giving birth. Journey Richardson, then 17, was dog-sitting alone when she went into labor (Image: INSTAGRAM (@journeyyrichardson)) Now 18, Journey told the Daily Mail her baby came out facedown, and was bright purple and not breathing. Horrified, she was forced to give her newborn daughter mouth-to-mouth for five minutes. Thankfully, she successfully resuscitated her baby girl, named Finn, all while bleeding out. Despite eventually saving her child, Journey admitted her first thought was ‘wow, I just killed my baby’. She had to resuscitate her baby as it was born blue in the face and not breathing (Image: INSTAGRAM (@journeyyrichardson)) Journey also noted the dog she was looking after stayed by her side through her childbirth, and repeatedly kept trying to lick her face. After the terrifying incident however, Journey still had to separate her umbilical cord, with no medical equipment to hand. She explained she bit through it, and did not call 911 until two hours after giving birth as she was nervous to call emergency services because her dad worked as a first responder. The teen sent her parents a cryptic text that something bad happened, and was brought to the emergency room by firefighters. Journey also had to separate the umbilical cord herself, biting through it (Image: GOFUNDME) When Journey’s dad eventually picked up the phone, a fireman told him: ‘Congratulations Grandpa, they’re both healthy.’ Journey, who is 5ft 2in, weighed 110lbs at full-term, shockingly only nine pounds more than her usual weight. Her parents later arrived at the hospital and asked to see the latest addition to the family. Journey said: ‘I didn’t even think that keeping Finn would be an option, but when my parents asked to see her I realized I could. ‘I never thought I wanted children… I didn’t really like kids.’ Journey has now set up a fundraiser for her new baby Finnley , and as of writing has raised $9,736 of her $10,000 goal.
