Owning, wearing or selling a rainbow-coloured Swatch watch is now punishable by up to three years in prison and a large fine in Malaysia, where homosexuality is illegal.
Malaysia’s government has criminalised the sale or possession of the Pride collection from the Swiss watchmaker, which are available in different colours of the rainbow and come with words such as “healing”, “life” and “sunlight” on the hand of the watch.
Possession of boxes, wrappers or even promotional materials for the watches is also illegal under the new restrictions, which stipulate fines of up 20,000 Malaysian ringgit (£3,425).
