In scenes that recall the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine , the Polish defence minister said today that the forces will be deployed over concerns about Wagner mercenaries in Belarus. Mariusz Blaszczak made the announcement just a day after Poland announced it would sending 2,000 additional troops to the border over the next two weeks. The soldiers are being deployed to reinforce the work of police and Border Guard officers, and are also attempting to stop migrants crossing the border without authorisation. Since Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko invited Wagner mercenaries into the country on July 16, Poland has been concerned about conflict. The Ukrainian National Resistance Centre said today that around 250 Wagner forces carried out maneuvers along the Polish border. ‘About 250 militants carried out maneuvers along the border to stretch the Polish troops,’ it claimed. ‘This is reported by the local underground.
