The Arizona Cardinals have been dealt a blow in the running back department with a newly-signed player’s season ending with a horror injury days ahead of their first preseason game
Marlon Mack’s NFL season is over before it started, picking up a left Achilles injury just days after signing for the Arizona Cardinals, head coach Jonathan Gannon has confirmed.
It’s not the first time that the running back, 27, has suffered that injury, having torn his right Achilles early in the 2020 season while playing for the Indianapolis Colts, when Gannon was the franchise’s defensive backs coach.
Gannon described Mack’s fresh injury setback as “terrible”, with the 2017 NFL draftee being dealt a tough blow to his hopes of making the Cardinals’ 53-man squad.
Mack spent last season with the San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos, racking up 185 rushing yards and a touchdown in eight games played. “Really good player we decided to add,” Gannon said before Mack’s injury blow.
