The Band’s Robbie Robertson dies after ‘long illness’ at 80 years of age

The lead guitarist of The Band, Robbie Robertson, has died weeks after turning 80, it was revealed today in a statement released by his long-time manager Jared Levine

Guitarist and singer-songwriter Robbie Robertson, from the Canadian-American hitmaking group The Band, has died at the age of 80.

Robbie’s longtime manager announced today that the rocker died on Wednesday (August 9) in Los Angeles. They have said that he died after a “long illness”, according to Variety. Jared Levine, who had managed Robbie for a staggering 34 years, released a statement today, which confirmed his death. Jared explained how Robbie was surrounded by his family at the time of his death, including his wife, his ex-wife, her partner and his children.

The statement continued: “He is also survived by his grandchildren Angelica, Donovan, Dominic, Gabriel and Seraphina. Robertson recently completed his fourteenth film music project with frequent collaborator Martin Scorsese, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon.'”
