Joleon Lescott outlines concern over Man City’s title chances after winning Treble

Manchester City are coming off the back of their first ever Champions League success, but former star Joleon Lescott doesn’t expect them to have everything their own way

Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott doesn’t believe his old employers are a lock for the Premier League title this season, despite coming off the back of a breakthrough Treble win.

Lescott was part of the City side which won its first Premier League title in 2012 but failed to go back-to-back under Roberto Mancini. They have won multiple titles in recent years under Pep Guardiola, but it wasn’t until this year that they added an elusive Champions League victory, beating Inter Milan in Istanbul to seal the Treble.

It has been a summer of change at the Etihad Stadium, with club captain Ilkay Gundogan joining Barcelona and former club record signing Riyad Mahrez moving to Al-Ahli. While City have the quality to lead the way again, with last season’s top scorer Erling Haaland aiming to lead the way once more, but Lescott has his reservations.

“No, I don’t think so,” TNT Sports pundit Lescott said when asked if City are clear favourites to retain their league title. “Not because of the signings, I just think what they’ve achieved has potentially taken a toll onto the start of the season.
