Wilko suspends online orders as it races to find new buyer and stop firm collapsing

High street homeware store Wilko announced last week it was appointing administrators putting 12,000 jobs at risk – the retailer has now suspended its online deliveries

Struggling high street giant Wilko has temporarily axed one of its online services as it teeters on the brink.

The budget homeware and hardware store has suspended online deliveries since news emerged it was racing to find a buyer amidst falling profits. It means customers unable to get to a store can’t currently order goods online.

Talks for an administrator are still ongoing, Chief Executive Mark Jackson said this week. However, if the high street stalwart does go under, it would put 12,000 jobs at risk and potentially close some of its 408 stores.

A notice on the store’s site on Wednesday said the service was “currently unavailable” but said customers could still do click-and-collect. The retailers recently extended their home delivery contract with GXO until June 2026, but shoppers are currently unable to buy items for delivery.
