According to his lawyer Lance Lazzaro, the hip-hop star did his best to defend himself but was outnumbered by his attackers and "beaten to a pulp" before the men fled the scene. Tekashi 6ix9ine did not have security with him during the attack. In a picture obtained by TMZ, the Fefe artist was seen with a swollen face and a gash near his cheek. Insiders told the publication that his jaw, ribs and back were also injured during the attack. A video of the attack did the rounds on social media, which showed a pair of men punching and kicking the musician as he was on the floor of the gym. A second clip showed Tekashi 6ix9ine with blood on his face as he left the sauna and returned to the main area of the gym. It is unclear if the incident was linked to his past legal issues. In 2020, the rapper was granted early release from federal prison following his 2019 sentence in connection with racketeering.
