 'They were pretty violent with each other (and me), you'd have the sh** knocked out of you.' Ruby went on to explain that she was driven to move away from her birth country and start a new life in the UK, firstly settling in Glasgow to study drama. 'I had ambition and the drive of a Rottweiler to survive. I pushed them (her parents) out of the way, and I was very rebellious, I'd creep out of the window when I was 18,' she recalled. Ruby Wax believes she would have died had she not fled her ‘violent’ parents and relocated to the United Kingdom.
Born in 1953 in Illinois, the comedian’s parents were Jewish and had left Austria in 1938 because of the Nazi threat.
But after her parents settled Chicago and started a family, they created an household marred by violence.
