Leeds close to double transfer breakthrough after Rodon Tottenham loan agreement

Daniel Farke has been tasked with a monumental rebuild at Elland Road following last season’s relegation from the Premier League and now progress is being made on incomings following the dramatic 2-2 opening-day draw with Cardiff on Sunday. Leeds are set to finalise the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa’s former target Rodon, who is set to travel to Yorkshire to undergo a medical ahead of a season-long loan switch from Spurs. Talks are also advanced with Norwich over a permanent deal worth up to £12million for England’s U21 European Championship winner Aarons. Farke has already lost Liam Cooper and Junior Firpo to injury with the Leeds skipper set to miss eight weeks of action after suffering a ruptured plantar fascia – the tendon which connects the heel bone to the toes – when heading home against the Bluebirds. The Whites, who remain interested in Swansea striker Joel Piroe, are also going after further defensive reinforcements with Liverpool’s Nat Phillips still of interest. Meanwhile, Leeds are also interested in a statement move for Coventry City starlet Gustavo Hamer. Burnley, Sheffield United and Fulham have also looked at the all-action midfielder, who could leave the Sky Blues before the transfer deadline. Hamer has a lucrative contract offer on the table at the Ricoh Arena but is now in the final year of his current deal and therefore, could be available for around £15m. The 26-year-old maestro started in Coventry’s 2-1 defeat at Leicester on Sunday but his immediate future remains up for debate. Farke has also considered a reunion with Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp, who is expected to remain in north London after netting twice in Spurs’ 4-2 friendly defeat to Barcelona in Catalonia on Tuesday evening. Skipp was Norwich’s Player of the Year as the Canaries romped to the Championship title during the 2020/21 campaign. Another player that remains of firm admiration is Burnley’s Charlie Taylor but the Clarets will only consider sanctioning his departure if a new left-back arrives in the final weeks of the window. Leeds have already re-signed free agent Sam Byram after he impressed in training at Thorp Arch. There is still a chance Premier League clubs could seek to raid the Whites of some of their most-prized assets including Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville. Tyler Adams is expected to depart with Chelsea, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest all interested in triggering his £20m release clause. Farke’s side host Shrewsbury in the first round of the EFL Cup at Elland Road on Wednesday evening.
