We've endured thunderstorms, flooding, gale force winds and relentless weather warnings throughout July, which was the sixth wettest ever on record. It's not quite the dizzy heights of the southern European heatwave, but you're not imagining it, that is indeed the sun shining. And it didn't take long for Brits to pack the beaches at the slightest hint of a bright, warm day. Pictures snapped before the clock even struck noon shows scores of people kitted out with their full beachgoing kit. Windbreaks, umbrellas, tents and towels line the shore, while dozens can be seen with shirts off in a desperate attempt to top up the tan for the first time in weeks. They're certainly not wasting a single minute of the long-awaited sunshine and who can blame them?
