However, a key family member is missing, their cat Leo, after a neighbour who was feeding him was unable to reach the home before the building swept away. You know, he's an Alaska cat. So he's got some good survival skills." The husband and wife said they watched their home collapse in real time, as neighbours sent videos and photos of their home being ravaged by the Mendenhall River. "It wasn't too long before we knew that our house had vanished. And then it was all over the national news, which was even crazier," Elizabeth said. The home, which is normally around 100ft away from the river, is separated by a wide garden and trees but on Saturday, a dam of snow and ice burst in a phenomenon known as jökuhlaup, sending a huge surge of floodwater down the river.
