Elizabeth Wilkins and her partner Tom Schwartz revealed nearly all their mementos were lost after footage of their rental home being hit by the Mendenhall River in Alaska went viral on Saturday. (See video above).
The teachers had been renting the home from their friends Joe Buffaloe and his wife Elizabeth Kent while the pair were on leave from the Juneau School District.
Despite losing dozens of precious belongings in the flood, a selection of family photos was recovered from the river undamaged, by kayakers on Sunday.
