The Dallas Cowboys, the most valuable sports team in the world, remain the most valuable franchise in the NFL for a 17th successive year as America’s Team enjoyed 20 percent growth in 2023
The Dallas Cowboys remain the most valuable franchise in the NFL while the Detroit Lions enjoyed the greatest increase over the past year.
The incredibly lucrative sale of the Washington Commanders to the Josh Harris-led consortium, which includes NBA legend Magic Johnson, for £4.76billion ($6.05bn) signalled a forgotten truth: NFL franchises are incredibly valuable ever-appreciating assets. The sale of the Commanders set a new record for the most expensive sale of a sports team, replacing the Denver Broncos sale in 2022.
Last year, the Walton-Penner family paid £3.65bn ($4.65bn) to purchase the storied AFC West franchise. This came just four years after David Tepper bought the Carolina Panthers for £1.8bn ($2.275bn) in 2018.
However, these figures pale in comparison to the Cowboys. The most valuable sports team in the world, the Cowboys lean on a lucrative combination of the franchise’s brand and its incredible AT&T Stadium, which is valued at £940million ($1.2bn).
