Arsenal agree £25m deal to sign Brentford’s David Raya

Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign the Brentford goalkeeper David Raya for an initial £25 million, which would take their summer spending above a net £200 million.

Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, renewed his interest in the Spain goalkeeper this month after his proposed move to Tottenham Hotspur fell through in June, having tried to sign Raya in 2020 and 2021.

Raya, 27, has agreed personal terms and is unlikely to be willing to make the move as a back-up, which raises a doubt about Aaron Ramsdale’s position at the club. The fee is thought to rise to around £30 million including add-ons.

Ramsdale signed a new four-year deal in May that runs until 2027, although he faced questions about some of the goals
