 The hikers who fell to their deaths on a trip into Glen Coe were a mountain guide and his two clients roped together, it is believed. Three walkers were found dead in the Scottish Highland mountains after they failed to return from a trip on Saturday. More details are emerging about the tragedy, and sources have now said the group had roped themselves together to get across the Aonach Eagach Ridge. They said it is 'pretty normal' to do this on sections of this ridge – often dubbed the narrowest on the British mainland. The guide was reportedly experienced but it was raining heavily on Saturday and the group ended up suffering a 'significant' fall. It is believed they were traversing the ridge east to west. Police Scotland has confirmed the bodies of two men and one woman were discoverd during a search launched just after 9pm. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.' HM Coastguard and Glencoe and RAF mountain rescue teams were also involved with in the rescue and recovery operation which had to take place in mist and fog,through difficult terrain. Angus MacDonald, a local Highland councillor who grew up in the Clachaig Inn below the ridge, said: 'This is a tragedy for those who died and their families. 'I know everyone in the area will feel for them.' David Whalley, a veteran mountaineer and former mountain rescue team leader, said Aonach Eagach was one of the best mountaineering ridges in Scotland. He told BBC Radio's Good Morning Scotland programme: 'We mustn't forget we are talking about people and grief going on in families' lives.
