Top 20 staycation spots in the UK

Cornwall has topped a list of the best UK staycation destinations (Image: SWNS) Cornwall has been named the best family staycation destination – followed by the Lake District, Devon, and London. Research of 2,000 parents revealed the top 20 places to go for a brilliant holiday on home turf – with Edinburgh, York, and Blackpool also appearing in the top 10. It also emerged 45 percent of those polled admit they won’t go away with the kids without at least some access to a pool or the sea within a 10 mile radius. The Lake District was voted the best destination for value for money, followed by Cornwall and Devon. And the research, commissioned by Premier Inn, found 53 percent now go on more staycations than holidays abroad. However, parents will also spend an average of £142 on a typical day out, whether it’s to the beach or on attractions. Following the findings, the hotel group has created a new map  to help you find the most exciting attractions at a convenient half-way point when meeting friends and family, in a bid to make the school summer holidays easier. A spokesman for Premier Inn said: ‘With so many amazing places to visit in the UK this summer, we’re happy to give parents some inspiration ahead of the upcoming school holidays. ‘It can be hard choosing the right places that are suitable for everyone, which is why it’s great that a lot of these places are just a car journey away. ‘Not only do staycations promote relaxation and rejuvenation, but they also empower us to support our local communities, and appreciate the wonders that lie just beyond our own front doors. ‘So, let’s embark on a journey of exploration, right where we are, and unlock the glorious sights of our home sweet home.’ But the Lake District came top when it comes to the best value for money (Image: SWNS) London was considered the best for attractions and activities, alongside Bath and Manchester. And it emerged that 68 percent of parents try to find educational places to visit, that their children will enjoy and find interesting. Meanwhile, nearly half (48 percent) of the parents surveyed – who all have kids aged 0-18 – said affordable accommodation options in a destination are important when it comes to planning the perfect staycation. A good mix of restaurants and cafes (47 percent), and free or cheap days out (44 percent), also scored highly. And two-thirds of those polled, via OnePoll.com, claimed free days out in the place they are visiting is a decision-maker when it comes to planning their staycation. The spokesman for Premier Inn added: ‘As we embrace the essence of home and the beauty it holds, we proudly advocate for the magic of staycations. ‘In a world that moves at lightning speed, staycations offer a serene escape right at our doorstep, allowing us to rediscover the treasures within our own backyard. ‘It’s a chance to rekindle our connection with loved ones, savour precious moments together, and create lasting memories in the comfort of familiar surroundings.’
