Greggs expands as eight new bakeries prepare to open

A new outlet in London will open along with a drive-thru in Cheshire (Image: Getty) The popular bakery chain announced that its new stores will open between August and September this year. While Greggs operates in 2,184 locations across the UK, the eight fresh branches will make their debut in England only. Six standard bakery sites will be joined by one drive-thru location in the north and a discounted outlet site in the south of the country. These will add to the 1,730 existing branches that can be found in Britain, currently accounting for 79 percent of all Greggs bakeries nationwide. It comes as part of plans by the retailer to expand its portfolio with 150 new locations this year. Customers local to Moore Lane South, Widnes, will be able to get their bakery fix on the go, as will passers-by travelling on the A562. It marks the 16th drive-thru location opened by the bakery giant after the first of its kind debuted in Irlam, Manchester back in 2017. Existing drive-thrus can be found in: Saltbox Road, Bognor Regis Westgate Retail Park, Slough Allerdyce Court, Glasgow Bonyrigg Road, Dalkeith Sandy Lane, Newcastle Southwell Road West, Mansfield Meadowhall Retail Park, Sheffield Gateway Service Station, Irlam Port Road, Newport Heol Waun Saggard, St Clears Integra 61, Bowburn – Durham Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire Snetterton, Norwich Frontier Park, Blackburn North Bradley, Trowbridge In Plaistow, customers will enjoy cheaper prices at the new outlet store. On their website, Greggs claimed: “Our Outlet shops help us to tackle food waste while allowing people in disadvantaged areas to enjoy our food at a huge discount. “A portion of the profit generated from our Greggs Outlets is donated to the Greggs Foundation, this is then shared between organisations such as soup kitchens, food banks, and community groups, putting money back into local community organisations that are working to tackle food poverty in areas of greatest need.” According to the bakery chain’s boss, Roisin Currie, the franchise’s “strong performance” has helped them deliver on their “strategic growth plan”. In recent months, other new outlets were launched at Glasgow Airport, London Gatwick’s South Terminal , and Canary Wharf tube station.
