Top tips to keep kids hydrated in summer

Four in five parents are extra concerned about keeping kids’ water bottles topped up during summer (Image: Science Photo Library/Getty Images) Parents are trying all sorts of tricks to keep their kids hydrated this summer – including freezing fruit into ice cubes. Other tips to get them to consume more fluid included making ice lollies, and eating snacks rich in water content – such as watermelon, grapes, and strawberries. And 59 percent said their children consider flavoured water a treat – with strawberry, lemon, and summer fruits among the top choices. In a bid to engage children to eat and drink right, parents are also planning picnics, working together with them to cook dinner, and preparing fun-shaped foods. The study of 1,300 parents, of children aged five to 17, found 79 percent are more determined than ever to ensure their kids’ water bottles are adequately topped up during the summer. And 47 percent admitted they’re on hydration high alert during the summer months. The research, commissioned by Volvic Touch of Fruit Sugar Free, also found 68 percent of mums and dads are feeling positive about the weeks ahead. Quality family time, relaxation with the kids, and a break from the school routine, are some of the things they’re looking forward to most. And one in three hope to spend more time together at mealtimes, rather than dealing with the usual rush. The brand is launching a two-day ‘Touch of Colour’ outdoor ‘sip and sketch’ colouring experience on August 5th and 6th, along London’s South Bank at Queen’s Stone. Singer Aston Merrygold, and his wife Sarah, will be bringing their kids to sip and sketch. Gemma Morgan, from Danone UK & IRL, said: ‘We’re eager to help parents keep their children hydrated, particularly in the warmer summer months with kids being extra active. ‘So, we’re excited to be launching our ‘A Touch of Colour’ event to equip families with more creative ways to keep their kids entertained while school’s out, as well as stay more hydrated. ‘Whether it’s spending quality time with the kids around the dinner table, or enjoying new experiences and making memories, we’re here to help make keeping your kids hydrated that little bit easier.’
