Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino ‘considering pulling plug’ on mammoth transfer

Chelsea transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino may pull the plug on a deal for Dusan Vlahovic (Image: GETTY) Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is not convinced that Dusan Vlahovic would be the right player for the Blues. Reports claim he could pull the plug on a potential move for the Juventus star which would have seen Romelu Lukaku head in the opposite direction. Goals were a problem for Chelsea last season and Pochettino is exploring potential ways of solving that issue. Lukaku will not be the answer to their woes, with the Belgian not part of the head coach’s plans following his return from Inter Milan. Inter were interested in re-signing Lukaku this summer but they pulled out of a move in July. Reports swiftly linked Juventus with the 30-year-old forward but they would have to sell first. Reports have linked Chelsea with a player-plus-cash deal to sign Vlahovic. The Blues were claimed to be prepared to pay up to £38.5m for the Serbia star, as well as sending Lukaku to Turin in exchange. However, the Guardian now reports that Pochettino is not convinced that would be the right move. It is unclear why the Argentine may be against signing Vlahovic but it now appears a deal may longer materialise. Vlahovic, a former target of Arsenal, joined Juve from Fiorentina in January 2022. He has scored 23 goals for the Old Lady in 63 appearances in all competitions. Pochettino may look elsewhere for attacking reinforcement or he may settle for what he has got. Midfield is the area he is most keen to improve upon in the final weeks of the window. Moises Caicedo remains his top target although Brighton are standing firm over their valuation of the player. The Seagulls want £100m for the Ecuador star and have already rejected multiple offers from the Blues. Chelsea transfer news: Dusan Vlahovic is gearing up for the new season (Image: GETTY)
