Liverpool are set to receive an opening bid from Saudi champions Al-Ittihad for the services of Mohamed Salah , according to reports. Al-Ittihad have already improved their squad with the signings of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Jota this summer but are seemingly not prepared to stop there as they look to fill their dressing room with more international stars. Salah has been identified as Al-Ittihad’s newest high-profile target and discussions have already taken place with the player’s representatives behind closed doors, according to Saudi TV channel Al-Riyadiah . It is said that talks are underway regarding a potential move before the end of the summer window on a lucrative two-year deal that would see Salah earn around £77million per season.Al-Ittihad are now said to be ready to begin talks with Liverpool by submitting an opening bid in the region of £60million, although it remains to be seen whether the Reds would be willing to entertain any offers for Salah. They have already lost Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi clubs this summer and may be reluctant to let any more of their star players leave before the transfer window slams shut. Meanwhile, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, has already dismissed the idea of a move to Al-Ittihad just 13 months after the winger signed a multi-year contract extension at Anfield. Abbas wrote on Twitter : “If we considered leaving Liverpool this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract at the club last summer. Mohamed remains committed to Liverpool.” Mohamed Salah has reportedly emerged as a target for Saudi champions Al-Ittihad (Image: GETTY) Salah managed to score 30 goals in 51 appearances for Liverpool last season and is firmly expected to reprise his key role for the Reds when the new Premier League campaign gets underway. He remains under contract until the summer of 2025 after penning fresh terms last year and has shown no sign of wanting to leave the club since officially extending his stay on Merseyside. It seems unlikely that anything will come from Al-Ittihad’s reported interest in Salah, although he will continue to be an obvious target for the Saudi Pro League with the exodus of players based in Europe set to carry on. Liverpool were recently urged to do everything in their power to keep hold of Salah by former Premier League striker Frank McAvennie, who believes that the forward still has plenty left to offer at the highest level of the game. The Egyptian winger remains tied down to Liverpool until the summer of 2025 (Image: GETTY) “He will still have at least another two top years at Liverpool,” McAvennie told Football Insider . “You’d think Salah had a terrible season in the last campaign but he managed to score 30 goals and I couldn’t believe it. That many goals is not bad for somebody who has gone under the radar. “With the importance he brings, I think he is worth every penny for Liverpool. He’s a great influence to the team and I don’t think he’s at the stage of his career where he should be leaving.” Want the latest Premier League news as we publish it on Express Sport ?
