Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino puts foot down and ‘vetoes Todd Boehly plans’

Mauricio Pochettino would not be on board with any attempt from Todd Boehly to bring Neymar to Chelsea this summer, according to reports. The Blues have been tentatively linked with a move for Neymar as of late and have been put forward as one of his potential suitors after he was put up for sale by Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. The Brazil international is eager to leave PSG before the summer window closes, with RMC Sport claiming that Chelsea have remained in contact with his representatives in the hope of snapping him up. However, it seems as though Pochettino would put a stop to any potential move as a result of his firm stance against signing Neymar this summer, according to the Evening Standard .It is said that the Chelsea boss is not keen on reuniting with the 31-year-old, who he managed during his time in charge of PSG throughout the 2021/22 campaign. There are said to be concerns over whether Neymar would be the right profile of player for the culture and style of football that Pochettino is trying to implement in his first season at Stamford Bridge. Those in power at Chelsea are also thought to be acutely aware that a move would not be financially viable, given that Neymar is currently earning around £600,000 per week at PSG. It is believed that the French giants would be willing to listen to offers in the region of £70million but it seems clear that Pochettino would rather look elsewhere to improve his squad over the coming weeks. All three are reportedly convinced that any move for Neymar would simply be a non-starter, with the Blues looking to target younger players as opposed to superstar names this summer. Neymar, meanwhile, is thought to have his heart set on a return to Barcelona, which suggests that it would be difficult for any other club to change his mind in the near future. It remains to be seen whether he will get his dream move back to the Nou Camp, with Chelsea seemingly not expected to rival Barcelona in the race to land the winger before next month’s transfer deadline. However, it is also said that Barcelona are wary over the possibility of bringing Neymar back as a result of their well-documented financial problems, which could prevent them from making the player’s dream a reality. Neymar’s desire to leave PSG is believed to have been fuelled by a group of ultras protesting outside his house back in May, claiming that he was not justifying his massive wages. The demonstrations were swiftly met by an official club statement, which read: “Whatever the differences of opinion, nothing justifies such actions. The club gives its full support to its players, its staff and all those targeted by such shameful behaviour.” Want the latest Premier League news as we publish it on  Express Sport ?
