Harry and Meghan’s Hollywood career ‘back on keel’ after series of snubs

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry bought the rights to a best-selling novel to get their Hollywood careers ‘back on keel’ after a series of snubs, according to a royal expert. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex bought the rights to Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune through their company Archwell Productions with the aim of bringing the book to the small screen via Netflix , a spokesperson at Penguin Random House told Forbes on Monday. Harry and Meghan reportedly shelled out an estimated $3.8 million for the film rights in order to jumpstart their Hollywood careers as producers amid a series of setbacks, according to royal expert Charlie Rae. “Where they are in trouble is their business ventures. Spotify dumped them, Netflix is sort of hovering,” Mr. Rae claimed. He continued: “Their only contribution has been…a series of shows slagging off the Royal Family. They’ve done all that and they cannot keep doing it.” Meghan and Harry have purchased the film rights for a bestseller. Speaking on Talk TV , he said: ‘They’re now choosing – quite rightly – to be behind the camera rather than in front of it because that’s not been a great success for them. ‘If this works for them then they’re back on keel again to get money in and be treated as worthy producers in Hollywood .’ He warned, however, the movie industry was ‘a difficult line to get into’ noting that appearing in Suits didn’t make Meghan an ‘expert in Hollywood ‘. Harry and Meghan could be looking to produce a new movie for Netflix. Last year in December the couple released a six-part Netflix docuseries detailing their relationship, marriage and eventual split from the Royal Family. The show – Harry & Meghan – was Netflix ‘s biggest documentary debut ever and is part of a five-year deal signed by the Sussexes in 2020 reportedly worth a staggering $100 million.
