Chelsea’s preparations for the new season have suffered a major blow with £53 million signing Christopher Nkunku facing an extended period on the sidelines with a knee injury sustained on pre-season tour in the United States.
France forward Nkunku, the standout performer during Chelsea’s pre-season tour, may require surgery on his left knee after catching his studs on a poor pitch at Soldier Field Stadium in Chicago during a friendly with Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea plan to provide an official update on Nkunku’s fitness but the club fear he may be out for at least three months after appearing to damage the meniscus in his knee.
