Elvis Week is about to kick off at Graceland 46 years on from Elvis Presley ‘s death at the Memphis Mansion on August 16, 1977. For most of that year the 42-year-old star, who suffered a fatal heart attack on the toilet in his upstairs bathroom, had been dating Ginger Alden. She’s replaced his main live-in lover of four and half years, Linda Thompson , who broke up amicably with Elvis around Christmas 1976. Now 73, the former Miss Tennessee model still regularly posts tribute to her famous old flame. Most recently she’s shared photos of herself with Elvis on tour in August 1976, just a year before he died. Elvis performing in 1977 (Image: GETTY) Linda wrote on her Instagram : ‘Throwback Thursday… on this day, August 3, 1976 – leaving Roanoke, Virginia, on our way to North Carolina for another show… I went on every single tour from July 6, 1972 through the end of November 1976. Me and the guys.’ It’s interesting that Elvis’ ex highlights how she was on every tour during this period after being ‘erased’ from Baz Luhrmann’s biopic that depicted her in archive footage for a split second. Nevertheless, Linda is taking part in Elvis Week 2023, which will be the first time ever she’s been a guest of Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises, giving sold-out private tours of the mansion and taking part in a brand new live interview. In a previous post, Linda wrote: ‘ It will be my honor to remember with reverence, dignity & humility the man who changed my life forever. “Elvis was an icon…an innovator & a true original. He is a long-lasting legend. “But most of all, he was paradoxically complicated in his childlike simplicity…a loving, vulnerable human being.’
