Dog who spent 500 days in kennels returned after just one week in new home

Little Drogo is searching for a new home after being taken in by the Austin Animal Center, in Texas, America – but he keeps being overlooked by all potential owners

An unwanted dog who spent 500 days in kennels waiting for somebody to adopt him has been returned after just one week. The poor pooch, named Drogo, was taken to the Austin Animal Center, in Texas, America, in March last year when his owner was evicted from their home.

But rather than collect his dog, the owner decided to leave him in their care, hoping somebody else would be able to give him the life he deserves. Unfortunately, the American pit bull struggled to win anybody over in kennels – and ended up waiting 500 days until finally catching somebody’s eye.

However, his adoption didn’t work out quite as planned as he was returned to the shelter just one week later after “nipping” his new owner. Sharing his story on TikTok, a worker at Austin Animal Center said: “When you wait 500 days to find a home and then get returned after one week. Shelter dogs need time to adjust to a new home. Drogo didn’t even get the chance. Now he’s back at the shelter again waiting for his real forever family.”

The caption added: “We are all crushed that Drogo was returned to the shelter so quickly. He was one of the longest stay dogs at the shelter and now he’s back again. He’s devastated. It’s not fair.” Drogo has been described as an “affectionate boy” who “loves to sniff the fresh air and go on lots of walks”.
