Wayne Shepherd, 40, underwent gastric sleeve surgery in June 2022 to help him lose weight after being on the NHS' waiting list for four years. After he was referred from Addenbrooke's Hospital, he underwent the successful surgery at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and was delighted as his weight plummeted from 35 stone to 14 stone. However his new body is covered in excess skin which he had believed he would be able to have removed. He has since learned he does not qualify for the operation, leaving him looking swamped in shock pictures. He told CambridgeshireLive : 'I feel more disgusting than I did when I was bigger. 'I feel absolutely devastated to the point where I have considered just eating again and putting the weight back on because it has messed with my head tremendously. "I feel people staring at me – I feel so insecure.' As a result Mr Shepherd says he does not leave his home without his arms and body covered. He has since launched a gofundme to help pay for the surgery himself. He wrote on the page: 'I have always been overweight and was bullied very very badly as a kid for it which fuelled my eating problems.. I am now 40 and have worked so hard to get to this point. 'It's been one hell of a ride with so much hard work but now I have this massive problem of excess skin. 'I was promised before I had my sleeve done they would fund and remove the skin for me when we got to that point and now I am there they won't fund it. 'This has destroyed me in so many ways. I am more insecure about how I look now than I ever was when I was bigger. I can not look at myself in the mirror with no clothes on, I won't let others look at me){kind=link}
