You'll need a TV that supports HDR10 for the feature to work. There's also a setting called FPS boost which makes the games appear to run faster. Microsoft explains on its Xbox support page : "As our backward compatibility catalogue grows, so do the number of ways you can enhance the visual quality of your past-gen games on your Xbox Series X|S console. "FPS boost increases the number of frames per second in select games, giving you a smoother visual experience and more immersive gameplay. "For TVs that support HDR10, auto HDR brings richer visuals to select games. "Past-gen games will pop with brighter colors and contrasts." The graphics of the games won't necessarily look better but the colors will appear elevated. FPS boost and Auto HDR are usually switched on by default for a lot of the content that supports them. However, you need to manually turn the settings on for certain video games. Click on the Xbox button on your controller and then select My games & apps and See all. Then, click Manage game and add-ons. Next, you'll need to select Compatibility options and tick Auto HDR. Microsoft notes: "You need to enable the Allow HDR10 feature in your console settings to make the option to check Auto HDR available to you. To do so, select Go to Settings."
