The caller had reported hearing gunshots, but at the time did not know the child had been killed. Before they were able to reach the room, they heard a second gunshot and found that they were locked out. Once they were finally able to open the door, they found both Cascetta and her child dead. Cascetta's neighbour told the New York Post: 'They had ambulances and police come to their house two, maybe three times this summer. At least twice, I saw the police and the ambulances arrive." The specifics of why the emergency responders were at her home previously and the events leading up to these calls are unknown. The family lived a 'very private' life, according to neighbours. One resident at the New York neighbourhood of Somers said: "They came over and introduced themselves when they moved in about two years ago, and then we never heard from them again. We didn't even know she was pregnant." Another added: "Our dog Bruno just started going bananas at 6:45.
