David Hunter suffocated his terminally ill wife Janice at the couple’s home in Cyprus, and was jailed for two years for the killing – now he’s revealed his ordeal right after her death
A Brit who killed his terminally ill wife after she “begged” him to was banged up in a psych ward where inmates terrorised him.
David Hunter walked free from jail in Cyprus last week after 19 months in prison. The 76-year-old suffocated his terminally ill wife of 52 years, Janice, who had spent six weeks pleading with him to end her suffering. The retired Northumberland miner was living in Cyprus with his wife, who had blood cancer.
Last week, his lengthy trial came to its conclusion after the judge ruled he should serve two years in prison, but having already spent so long behind bars, he was freed. However, David has now relived the horrors he went through in jail. The Brit said he was sectioned in a psychiatric hospital with five mentally ill inmates.
Speaking to the Mail, he said: “One was jabbering, shouting and laughing all day and night in Greek. He was talking on an imaginary mobile phone and I only got to sleep when I grabbed the make-believe ‘phone’ and pretended to take the batteries out.
