Rasmus Hojlund convinced Man Utd to ‘back away’ from Harry Kane after Erik ten Hag talks

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag quickly decided that Rasmus Hojlund was the club’s primary transfer target after it was decided that they would not pursue Harry Kane

Erik ten Hag was bowled over by Rasmus Hojlund’s ‘personality and ambition’ during video calls after Manchester United decided against making a move for Harry Kane.

Kane, 30, was of interest to the Old Trafford hierarchy in the weeks leading up to the summer transfer window and was believed to be attainable after entering the final year of his deal at Tottenham. However, the Londoners were unwilling to sell their star striker to a domestic rival.

The club turned their attention to different targets including Hojlund, who held multiple preliminary calls with Ten Hag. And the 20-year-old Denmark international soon emerged as United’s top target after impressing Ten Hag in talks.

The Telegraph has outlined that the Dutchman was left impressed with Hojlund’s character and desire to become one of the world’s best strikers after holding several one-to-one conversations with the former Atalanta ace.
