The Premier League and FA Cup holders face off against Mikel Arteta’s men at Wembley, as the countdown to the Premier League season reaches its climax before the top-flight’s big return
Manchester City and Arsenal will meet in the Community Shield on Sunday afternoon in the traditional curtain raiser ahead of the new Premier League season
The annual clash usually sees the Premier League winners meet the holders of the FA Cup but after Manchester City’s treble triumph last season, Arsenal will play them in the curtain raiser game as they finished runner up in the league. Arsenal ran City close in the title race last year only to fall late in the day and they’ll want to show Pep Guardiola’s side that they are once again up for the fight this term.
Mikel Arteta’s men haven’t appeared in the Community Shield since 2020 whereas Manchester City will be looking to put a few ghosts to bed in the game after losing to Liverpool 3-1 at the start of last season and losing 1-0 to Leicester in 2021. In fact the last time City won the Community Shield was in 2019 where they beat Liverpool on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
