Nottingham Forest enter Josip Sutalo transfer battle after Ajax move hits rocks

Nottingham Forest and West Ham want Dinamo Zagreb defender Josip Sutalo (Image: Getty) Nottingham Forest are exploring the signing of Dinamo Zagreb centre-back Josip Sutalo after top defender target Roger Ibanez also received a lucrative proposal from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli. Steve Cooper is looking to add a left-sided centre-back to his ranks and now attention has turned to Croatian prospect Sutalo, who is one of Europe’s hottest commodities after wowing scouts with eye-catching performances in his homeland. Forest are now in talks to over a deal for the 23-year-old although it’s currently unclear whether they would favour a move for Sutalo or Ibanez should both be considered available for transfer. Another unnamed Premier League club, believe to be West Ham, have also been exploring the player’s situation in the past few days. Manchester United are continuing to hold firm over Harry Maguire after David Moyes’ side saw an opening £20m bid rejected by Old Trafford chiefs. The Hammers are reluctant to raise their bid for the England international until they receive assurances the defender is open to the move but they are in the market for a defender. Ajax have already held face-to-face negotiations with Dinamo Zagreb over the signing of Sutalo but they are yet to get an agreement over the line. Director Sven Mislintat was in Croatia earlier this week for discussions over a deal but he has since returned to Amsterdam and the door remains open for rivals to pounce. Meanwhile, understood Roma have received a proposal worth £21.5m from the Tricky Trees but incredibly the player’s representatives have shot down talk of an offer from City Ground chiefs. Ibanez’s representative Lodovico Spinosi is said to have declared to TAG24: “It’s just talk, there hasn’t been any offer to the player from the English club,” Spinosi said. “I have heard rumours of an interest, but no concrete action has followed at the moment. “Ibanez is doing very well at Roma and wants to stay, he feels valued by the coach and his teammates. He is in love with the city and the fans, so he wants to continue to playing in the yellow and red shirt. “He is totally concentrated in training and giving his best for the team. Naturally, if an offer arrives at the club, we will listen to it.” MORE TO FOLLOW We’ll be bringing you the very latest updates, pictures and video on this breaking news story.
