Thug who murdered Tyson Fury’s cousin in mass brawl outside bar jailed for life

A thug who murdered Rico Burton – the cousin of world boxing champion Tyson Fury – in a mass brawl outside a bar has been jailed for life.

Mr Burton, 31, died after being stabbed in Altrincham, Cheshire, in the early hours of August 22 last year. The knife’s seven-inch blade almost completely severed the major carotid artery in his neck, causing massive blood loss after a fight erupted between two groups of men.

Liam O’Pray, 22, was found guilty of murder last month, as well as wounding with intent by slashing and stabbing Harvey Reilly, then 17, during the same incident. Today, he was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 28 years before parole.

During the trial, the court heard O’Pray had a previous conviction for having a knife in public in 2019. He earlier told the jury: “I’m not a violent person.”
