French rapist tracked down after 25 years with unprecedented help from FBI

‘Predator of the forest’ dragged girls, aged 15 to 19, into woods and raped them with a knife to their throats between 1998 to 2008

French detectives teamed up with the FBI to identify the “predator of the forest” and solve a 25-year-old cold case by crossing DNA found at the crime scenes of teenagers he raped to vast amounts of US-based genetic data.

Bruno L, 63, had gone undetected for decades but was finally arrested and charged late last year with violently raping five teenagers in crimes dating from 1998 to 2008.

French police poured huge means into tracking down the “predator” whose signature attack involved dragging young girls, aged 15 to 19, into the woods, raping them with a knife to their throats and then leaving them naked, scattering their clothes among the trees.

One attack took place in la Rochelle, western France, while the rest were in the Paris region.
