Alessia Russo sent touching message by her mum after first World Cup goal

Alessia Russo is leading England’s attack at the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand – scoring their opening goal in the 6-1 win against China in Adelaide

The mum of Lionesses star Alessia Russo has sent her a moving message of love and support after her first goal at the Women’s World Cup.

Carol Russo recalled watching her three-year-old daughter ‘dancing in a Tutu’. But she knew that she really wanted to play football with her dad Mario and older brothers Luca, a non league player, and Giorgio, a successful athlete who works as her agent.

Carol’s message to England’s striker is accompanied by a series of family video clips, including Russo with her first Predator football boots, playing football on the beach as a child with her brothers, and meeting Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

Her daughter is expected to be the first Women’s Super League (WSL) player to earn £1million a year, with contracts for Beats by Dre, Adidas, KFC and Oakley. Carol, of Maidstone, Kent, tells the 24-year-old: ‘Don’t ever change’.
