After turning up empty handed, the search was eventually called off, leaving the family heartbroken and without answers as to the fate of their loved one. There was no evidence of a crime being committed, so Tony's case was treated as a missing persons case. This remained so even after an anonymous letter, sent a year after Tony's disappearance, suggested police investigate a pair of local brothers. It wasn't until November 2020 when the case was turned on its head after local police received a call from a young woman – who has since asked her identity remain a secret.
