Odesa: Russia strikes Ukraine’s Danube port after scrapping grain deal

Russia launched a new wave of drone strikes on the port in southern Ukrainian’s Odesa region overnight, destroying infrastructure used to store and transport grain, after President Putin ripped up a deal to allow the safe shipment of food from the Black Sea.

Oleh Kiper, the regional governor, wrote on Telegram: “As a result of the attack, fires broke out at port facilities and regional industrial infrastructure, and an elevator was damaged.”

Odesa was subjected to repeated intense Russian strikes last month following the conclusion of the Black Sea grain deal between Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN, which allowed the safe passage of cargo ships transporting Ukrainian grain through its waters.
